What Affects the Cost of a Business Website in Nepal
By Bibek Pandey · · Updated · 2 min read
Owners in Kathmandu, Pokhara and across Nepal often ask the same first question: how much does a website cost? The honest answer is that it depends on a short list of things. Knowing them lets you compare quotes fairly and avoid paying for what you do not need.
1. The number and type of pages
A five-page brochure site (home, about, services, gallery, contact) is a different job from a catalogue with hundreds of products. Decide first whether you need to inform, collect enquiries or sell online.
2. Features that need real engineering
Contact forms and WhatsApp buttons are simple. These take more time and therefore cost more:
- Online payments (eSewa, Khalti, cards) and order tracking
- Customer accounts and dashboards
- Booking or appointment systems
- An admin panel so you can edit content yourself
- Content in both English and Nepali
3. Design and brand material
A site built from your existing logo, photos and colours is faster than one that needs a brand identity, photography or video first. Good photos and a short intro video do more for trust than extra pages.
4. Who writes the content
The most common reason projects run late is missing text and images. Prepare your service descriptions, prices you are happy to publish, and a few real photos before development starts.
5. Hosting, domain and upkeep
These are yearly costs, separate from the build: a domain (.com, or .com.np where you qualify), hosting, and an email address on your own domain. Ask who owns the domain and accounts. They should be registered in your name.
6. After launch
Sites need updates, backups and security patches. Agree in advance whether that is included, a monthly plan, or paid per request.
How to get a quote you can compare
Send the same short brief to each developer: your goal, the pages and features you need, who writes the content, and your deadline. Ask for a fixed scope, a price and a timeline in writing. If two quotes differ a lot, the difference is almost always in the scope, so compare line by line.
