Local SEO for Nepali Businesses: A Practical Starting Checklist
By Bibek Pandey · · Updated · 2 min read
Local SEO means showing up when someone nearby searches for what you do, such as "web developer in Kathmandu" or "भिडियो एडिटर नेपाल". You do not need a large budget. You need to do a few things consistently.
1. Claim your Google Business Profile
This free listing controls how you appear in Google Maps and local results. Add your exact business name, category, opening hours, phone number and website. Keep the name, address and phone number identical everywhere you appear online.
2. Give every page its own title and description
Each page should say what it is in a sentence people would search for. A page titled "Home" tells Google nothing. Compare:
- Weak: Home
- Better: Web & App Developer in Kathmandu, Nepal
Keep titles to about 50 to 60 characters and descriptions to about 120 to 158 characters so they are not cut off in results.
3. Write for how Nepalis actually search
People search in English, in Nepali script and in Roman Nepali. Use the plain words your customers use. If you serve a specific city, say so honestly and give that city's page real, specific information instead of repeating the same text with a different name.
4. Make the site fast on a phone
Most local searches happen on mobile, often on variable connections. Compress images, avoid heavy scripts, and test your pages with Google's free PageSpeed Insights.
5. Collect real reviews
Ask happy customers to leave a review on your Business Profile. Reply to every review politely. Never buy or invent reviews: it breaks Google's rules and customers notice.
6. Use structured data and a sitemap
Structured data (schema.org) helps search engines understand your business name, services and location. Submit your sitemap in Google Search Console and check it for errors every month.
A realistic timeline
Local ranking improves gradually. Expect weeks, not days, and keep adding genuinely useful pages and updates.
