Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts: Video Sizes and Editing Basics
By Bibek Pandey · · Updated · 1 min read
Short vertical video is now the default way many people in Nepal discover brands, creators and products. The good news is that one well-made edit can be published on every platform. Here are the basics.
The format
| Setting | Recommended |
|---|---|
| Aspect ratio | 9:16 (vertical) |
| Resolution | 1080 x 1920 pixels |
| Frame rate | Match your footage: 24, 25, 30 or 60 fps |
| File | MP4 (H.264) with AAC audio |
Shoot at the highest quality you can, then export once. Re-uploading a re-compressed copy loses sharpness.
Respect the safe area
Each app places buttons, captions and your username over the video. Keep important faces and text away from the top and bottom edges and the right side, so nothing is hidden.
A simple editing workflow
- Hook in the first two seconds. Start with the result, a question or movement, not a logo.
- Cut tight. Remove pauses and repeated takes. Short clips keep attention.
- Add captions. Many people watch with the sound off. Captions in English or Nepali help both viewers and accessibility.
- Use clean audio. Poor sound loses viewers faster than average picture quality.
- Finish with one clear action: follow, visit, or send a message.
Colour and motion
Keep a consistent look across a series: one colour grade, one font, similar transitions. Motion graphics such as animated titles and lower thirds make explainer videos easier to follow.
Keep a library of your links
When a reel performs well, keep the original link, the date, and what you learned. A simple record of your best videos helps you repeat what works, and it can be shown on your portfolio.
